Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport


Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport is the largest in France, the hub for Air France, and the second-busiest airport in Europe. Located 23 kilometers (14 miles) northeast of Paris, this is one of the closest airports to the city of Paris itself. Named after former President Charles de Gaulle, the hub handles more than 76 million passengers per year. Private car services, buses, shuttles, and the metro are all available for transferring into the city, which typically takes roughly 50 minutes by bus, though the commute time can add up.

Paris Orly Airport


Located just 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) from Paris, this is the closest airport to the city. It serves as a secondary hub to Charles de Gaulle for Air France and is the home of Transavia France airline. Orly (ORY) is the second-busiest airport in France for overall traffic, and remains the busiest in terms of domestic flights. The airport is noticeably smaller than Charles de Gaulle, but is a clean and efficient option.

Paris Beauvais airport

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 5:45 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 6 a.m. to 10:15 p.m.

Located in the Picardy region of France, this airport is located 85 kilometers (53 miles) northwest of Paris. Serving approximately 4 million passengers per year, Paris Beauvais airport (BVA) is the tenth-busiest airport in the country. Typically budget and low-cost airlines utilize this as a smaller, more affordable means for transporting passengers to Paris. The drive time into the city by coach is approximately an hour and 15 minutes, dropping off and collecting passengers from the Palais des Congrès at Porte Maillot, located in the 17th Arrondissement. The bus departs every 40 minutes and costs 17€ each way.

There is also a railway station just 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the airport that connects to Gare du Nord, Amiens, and other Paris stops. Catch a taxi at the airport for a simple transfer to the train station.

Private Airports

Deauville Normandy airport (168km)

Hours : November through February, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; March through September, the airport is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Situated east of Deauville and 168 kilometers (104 miles) northwest of Paris, Deauville Normandy airport (DOL) is a small, international airport. Aegean Airlines, Volotea, and TUI fly Belgium all fly in and out of the airport. There is a restaurant inside the small airport as well.

Baggage in excess of admitted checked luggage will always be refused, so stick to the limit.

Le Mans Arnage airport (185km)

Hours : Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Le Mans Arnage (LME) airport is located 185 kilometers (115 miles) southwest of Paris. There are two runways, one asphalt while the other is grass. This small, quaint airport is ideal for private plans and boutique airlines that are better accommodated by airports with less traffic. Thanks to its small size, this is a highly navigable airport that is quick to move through.

Paris Vatry (147km)

This is a small, international airport servicing northeastern France just outside of Châlons-en-Champagne, which is approximately 147 kilometers (91 miles) from Paris. Iberia Regional and RayanAir fly to and from Paris Vatry, also known as Châlons-en-Champagne airport (XCR). The quaint airport has a restaurant with a spacious terrace that is worth visiting during warmer months.

It is possible to rent a car or take a bus from the airport. A nearby train station also makes travel by railway from the region — even to Paris — a possibility.

Reims en Champagne airport (130km)

Hours : Open 24 hours daily

Reims (RHE) airport is 130 kilometers (81 miles) northeast of Paris. This is a general aviation airport owned by the government for military and public use. There is one asphalt runway and one grass runway as well. The company Reims Aviation also calls the airport home.

Rouen airport (112km)

Hours : Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Located 112 kilometers (70 miles) from Paris, this airport is a regional, seasonal hub that is serviced by Air Frane Hop to Figari, Algarve, Naples, Majorca, and Bastia. This Normandy regional airport is quite small and only operates during peak tourist season.

This airport is quite limited, so plan your travels with another type of transportation in mind depending on the time of year. Train travel or car rentals might be necessary.
