In the Place de la Bastille, the Colonne de Juillet (July Column) soars for 52 meters high. It was constructed between 1840 and 1845 as a memorial to all those who died during the French Revolution. The column is topped with a gilded statue designed to represent the spirit of freedom.
It is easy to get to July Column and Place de la Bastille using public transport. Just take the subway to the Bastille station. If you are driving, there is a public car park on Rue de Lyon not far from Place de la Bastille.
