Panthèon

On a hilltop overlooking the Latin Quarter, the Panthéon is an 18th-century mausoleum that holds the tombs of some of France’s most influential citizens. The Panthéon’s crypt is the final resting spot of authors Victor Hugo and Emile Zola, philosophers Voltaire and Rousseau, and more recently Nobel Prizing-winning physicist Marie Curie. The entire interior of the monument is devoted to remembering the accomplishments of these famous French scientists, writers, politicians, and other history-makers with a number of exhibits.

Hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except closed on Jan. 1, May, Dec. 25 and June 17 (morning)
Tickets $12 plus $3.50 to access the dome, children under 18 free
Andy’s Notes:

It is worth the exertion to climb the 200-plus stairs to the top of the Panthéon’s dome. From its colonnaded balcony you will have stunning views across Paris. The dome is only open from April through October.
