Place de la Concorde

Anchoring one end of the Champs-Elysées, the Place de la Concorde is the largest of the public squares in Paris at 18 acres. During the French Revolution it was the site of many executions with the guillotine set up here. Important figures sent to the guillotine here include King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. The square is also home to the Luxor Obelisk, which is a 3,300-plus-year-old Egyptian obelisk that was gifted to France in 1836. Additionally, look for two beautiful fountains, and a number of the top hotels in Paris are located in its vicinity.

Andy’s Notes:

A lot of blood was shed in this square. History buffs will likely already know this is where the guillotine was erected that took out a lot of French royalty during the French Revolution in the late 1700s.
