Sainte-Chapelle

Saint-Chapelle was not damaged in the fire that devastated nearby Notre-Dame Cathedral and you can still visit this Gothic-style chapel on the Île de la Cité. It was built in seven years in the 13th century and was originally intended to house Christian relics. It is also famous for its stained glass. The chapel has 15 stained glass windows that are each 15 meters high and depict some 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments.

Hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Jan. 2 to March 31 and Oct. 1 to Dec.31; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., April 1 to Sept. 30
Tickets $13, free children under 18
Andy’s Notes:

If you can visit for a classical music concert in Saint-Chapelle, do so. The acoustics are great and it is a magical experience. Concerts usually take place at 6 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. and the season runs from March through December — in winter the chapel is not heated, however!
