Synagogue de Nazareth

The oldest synagogue in Paris, construction on the Synagogue de Nazareth in the 3rd Arrondissement was authorized in 1819 by Louis XVIII. The first synagogue built here, however, was destroyed in 1850 and replaced by the building seen today. This is a beautiful synagogue with an enormous doorway in Neo-Moorish style and a rose window featuring the Star of David and the motto of France. It has an organ, common with French Jews.
