Petit Palais

After strolling along the Champs-Élysées, take a cultural break at the Petit Palais, which like the Grand Palais sitting across the way was built for the 1900 Universal Exposition. Home to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris, the Petit Palais features 1,300 works of art ranging from sculptures and paintings to tapestries and icons. Collections are expansive and include ancient and medieval art, as well as pieces from the Italian Renaissance and 19th century French painters like Delacroix, Monet, Sisley and Renoir. One of the highlights is the calming inner garden, whose vaulted ceiling is decorated with a Renaissance-style fresco.

Hours Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; open until 9 p.m. on Fridays during temporary exhibits.
