Montmartre Walking Tour

One of those tours that will have you raving, “C’est fantastique!” over and over, the Montmartre Walking Tour explores Paris’ most bohemian, artistic district, including the famed Moulin Rouge (where the French cancan was born!), Le Chat Noir, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, and Artist’s Square. You’ll stroll the picturesque streets that inspired Renoir, Picasso, and Edith Piaf and weave through secluded gardens and back alleyways. With windmills and vineyards along the way — and Paris’ most celebrated 180° view — you’ll enjoy some of the best photo opportunities the City of Light has to offer. The tour strives to avoid the crowds in this tourist-heavy area, with an emphasis on Montmartre’s hidden gems. Wheelchairs are not advised on this tour because of the hilly terrain.

Hours 11 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. every day. Extra 5 p.m. tour from March 6 until Nov. 1. Tours average 1 hour, 40 minutes, and meet up outside the Blanche Métro.
Tickets This is a free walking tour, in which you may tip the guide at its conclusion. (Average tip: $14) Booking in advance is optional, but groups of 8 and more are required to register at discoverwalks.com
Andy’s Notes:

While much of Paris has been modernized, Montmartre, quaintly perched on a small hill, has doggedly retained every ounce of the old-world charm and rustic flavor that attracted such artists as Picasso, van Gogh, Dali, Duchamp, and Monet to live and paint here. Many famous movies are set in Montmartre and you’ll recognize the streets where Amélie, Midnight in Paris, and L’Age d’Or were filmed.
