Bofinger

Arguably the first brasserie in Paris, the original Bofinger served only draught beers and charcuterie in 1864 — a modest beginning for what is now widely acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful brasseries in the entire city, serving a considerably more extensive menu today. True to its Alsatian roots, its signature items include choucroute (boiled meats over sauerkraut) and oysters (six varieties available), but, with an average of 80 orders per night, French onion soup remains just as popular, of course.

Monday through Saturday: Noon to 3:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.; Sunday: Noon to 11:30 p.m.

If you want to sit under the famed glass dome of the central dining room (and you certainly do), you’ll need to make your reservation weeks in advance, and specify your preference.
