Shopping Malls

Galerie Vivienne

Hours: Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

First opened in 1823, the Galerie Vivienne is a covered passageway built in the Neoclassical style, which makes it a beautiful step back into old world Paris. Filled with light from the central skylight and with mosaic-tiled floors underfoot, this is one picturesque shopping center. The stores within the area range from gourmet foods and cafés to wine shops and bookstores. Browse around, but do not leave without trying the caramel brioche at Bistro Vivienne.

Andy’s Notes:

Though this mall is technically open set hours each day, the hours of each of the shops within the mall vary.

Le Carrousel du Louvre

Hours: Wednesday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Located between the Louvre museum and the Place du Carrousel, this underground shopping mall is best known for its skylight, La Pyramide Inversée, which appears in the best-selling book, The DaVinci Code. The famous installation aside, this shopping mall is an easy stop for quick-service food near the museum. The marble shopping center also offers many high-end shops for brands like Gucci, Pylones, L'Occitane en Provence, and Swarovski.

Andy’s Notes:

There is an entrance to the Louvre within this mall, which typically offers much faster entry to the museum, as few people enter here.

Le Passage du Havre

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Once a covered passageway in Paris, the Passage du Havre was rebuilt in the 1990s as a modern mall. Today the shopping center offers both French and international retail shops like Sephora and Fnac. The stylish and modern mall features a central skylight with a beautiful glass installation and plenty of greenery. The combination of shops makes this mall a good, central option for general shopping.

Andy’s Notes:

The shops, restaurants, and bars in this passage are centrally located and convenient to the Gare Saint-Lazare train station.
