Le Train Bleu

With prime location at Gare de Lyon, the aptly named Le Train Bleu is the undisputed crown jewel of Paris brasseries, at least as far as visual drama goes. The overwhelmingly decadent Belle Époque interior positively glistens with intricate gilt carvings surrounding antique frescoes and ostentatious chandeliers overlooking a cavernous dining room of leather banquettes on parquet floors. Le Train Bleu is certainly a feast for the eyes, and its inspiring interior may well be the primary draw for most visits, but there’s plenty for your taste buds to appreciate, too. Try the roast leg of lamb, carved at the trolley, or the luxury brasserie’s signature dish, gratin dauphinois.

Andy’s Notes:

The exceptional prices at Le Train Bleu certainly take into account the prestige of its ornate interior, particularly that of the main dining room, but not all diners are seated here. To avoid the disappointment of soaring prices in an average environment, make a reservation as far in advance as possible, and specify your seating preference.
