Le Relais de l’Entrecôte

Le Relais de l’Entrecôte has been a Paris institution since the late 1950s, and, though it started out as a traditional bistro serving a more varied menu, the success of its entrecôte is what made it famous. There are still a few additional menu items to be found (including a vegetarian option), but the vast majority of diners partake in the set menu of walnut salad followed by sirloin served with hand-cut fries. Ah yes, and there’s the famous sauce, of course! The steak at Le Relais is topped with a buttery mustard sauce with a secret recipe that has been the subject of speculation for decades.

Andy’s Notes:

There are now three of this popular restaurant in Paris (and two more beyond), but this one is in the quaintest setting and tends to have shorter waits. The others are in the 14th and 16th Arrondissements.
